Digital devices are a ubiquitous part of our daily life. We are directly or indirectly contributing to the data deluge phenomenon. Data is everywhere, but where, how and what data can, should, and indeed, may we use?
I architect and build software in the data management area, previously in industry, and since the last decade, in R&D capacity. I work mainly in publicly-funded, multidisciplinary R&D projects collaborating with academic and industrial organizations at the UK and European levels and have published various papers on data discovery, access and integration, preservation and security in Grids and web environments. I currently lead our group’s contribution to SCIDIP-ES, an EU Framework 7 infrastructure project addressing the issues of long-term preservation of Earth Science information.
