Group Leader, High Performance Systems Group

After a number of early-career experiences, including working as a farm hand and training to be a production engineer, Dave found his talents best suited to a career in IT. As an IT assistant he worked on systems including a VAX 11/750 and IBM S/360, before becoming an IT Manager in 1997, running systems amongst which were an IBM AS/400, Sun and HP-UX workstations. He joined the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) in 2001 as a senior Unix system administrator and played an active part in establishing a High Performance Computing (HPC) service at the Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory in Liverpool. Dave joined SCD in 2008 as part of the Distributed Computing Group before taking over leadership of the High Performance Systems Group in 2013.
